Fresh reports coming in of looting in Birminghm city centre.

Twitter is awash with updates, some false, some genuine.

Recent photo's are also surfacing at http://birminghamriots2011.tumblr.com/

I can't really see that this has anything to do with the shooting of Mark Duggan in Tottenham, north London. It's opportunistic youths who wish to take what doesn't belong to them.

The police, it appears, have a long night ahead of them.

I think the answer is pretty simple - send in the armed forces...and let them be armed.

The live pictures from parts of London today saw young men [animals] goading the police then throwing missiles at them. They [police] can only do so much - if they arrest an offender then the paperwork and logistics of such an arrest will leave them thin on the ground.

It's utterly ridiculous that one of the most highly regarded fighting forces in the world [the British Army] are not being called upon to, at the very least, assist the police.

The yobs must be so proud of themselves.

For the latest news on the civil unrest, I suggest Sky News
